"I got my May 97 Consumer Reports yesterday and they have a large article on children online. One of their side stories is called "Cyberspace: the promise" subtitled "Four ways the web serves children well."
Under the section "Meeting other children" it says, in part: The Web is a bit riskier; it's harder to check a keypal's identity. We found better security at A Girl's World
(www.agirlsworld.com), where users communicate through
numbers similar to a post-office box, so they don't have to disclose their e-mail address. I'm impressed."
